Some of my most recent sessions and upcoming are about new journeys, new adventures, fresh starts. Here are some tips if you are feeling stuck and need a fresh start.

1. Try a change in scenery - maybe something as simple as changing your route to work!

2. Take more breaks - instead of one big long nap in the afternoon or an hour long lunch, try taking a 5 minute walk every hour!

3. Try a new exercise routine - especially great if you've grown tired of your current one!

4. Change your appearance - something a subtle as a new lipstick or more drastic like a new hair do.

5. Clear the clutter - get rid of some old clothes you don't wear and get a new outfit!

6. Catch up with someone you haven't seen in a while - lots of new conversation topics here

7. Take a class - learn a new skill or increase your knowledge of one you already have

8. Organize a new group - how about a Bible study group

9. Get a new pillow - nothing says fresh like a new pillow

10. Plant a garden - watch the fresh flowers and produce grow

Eight Tips for a Great Family Photo Session https://www.sarahmoyerphotography.com/blog/2015/4/eight-tips-for-a-great-family-photo-session Family photo sessions can be stressful, especially with small children but here are some tips to help prepare before your session so you can get the most out of the experience!

1.  Choose clothing carefully.

Consider what you will wear well in advance and make sure that your outfit choices are comfortable and attractive.  What do your dream family photos look like?  If they are soft and elegant?  Chose neutral colors with soft, flowing fabrics (think creams, very soft pastels, light browns, tans, grays, and slate blues).  Want to showcase the fun and spunky side of your family?  Choose coordinating colors (but not too matching) with bold accent colors, such as hues of gray with yellow or bright red accents.  Adding fun accessories like scarves, headbands, hats, etc. can add a modern twist and sassy flair to your images.

2.  Be well rested and well fed.

Be certain not to schedule your photo session around your child’s nap or bedtime.  The best time for lighting is the two hours before sunset and after sunrise.  If this is a bad time for your children, talk with me because we can capture beautiful images at almost any time of day (except in the dark).  Also don’t show up to a photo shoot on an empty stomach. If your plan is to eat a meal after your session, be sure to give everyone a healthy snack before the photo shoot to tide them over!

3.  Be sure to leave plenty of time to get ready.

Moms are often rushing around before a photo shoot, making sure that their family is dressed and ready. Moms need to take time to do their own hair and make-up before preparing everyone else.  When mom is feeling pretty and confident, this will reflect on the rest of the family.  When a family shows up to a family photo session rushed and disorganized, it sets the tone for a rushed and disorganized session.  Give yourself extra time so that you are ready before it’s time to head out that door.

4.  Dads also set a tone, make it a good one.

Dads, please cheerfully participate.  I know that many dads dread the family photo session, but if dad is dragging or complaining, the entire tone of the session will set up for less than desired images.  These images will be left as a legacy, when your children are grown, with families of their own some day. Dads who cheerfully participate will see a  happy mom and amazing photographs, and you will be so glad that you gave this time to your family.

5.  Cheese is for crackers.

Please leave the “cheese” at home.  Cheese is for crackers.  So many times parents demand young children to look at the camera to smile which only stresses the children out and will result in strained, unnatural and often unflattering photographs.  Step back, and allow me to naturally interact and talk with your children.  This will allow me to capture natural, gorgeous smiles.  Help me capture the true essence of your child’s personality by talking with and coaxing out those smiles naturally and easily.

6.  Have fun with your family.

Don’t be afraid to pick up your children and toss them in the air.  Give your wife a sweet kiss on the check.  Tell your husband how much you love him and appreciate him for being there for your family.  Have fun.  Laugh. Giggle. Joke. Embrace.  Kiss.  Snuggle.  Play.  Doing these things will allow me to capture the emotion and true beauty of your family.  Leave the stiff “cheese” faces for Aunt Maggie at the next family reunion.  Show me who you really are, so that I have the opportunity to capture your love through my lens.

7.  Consider what you enjoy doing together as a family.

My most successful family sessions have incorporated an activity that the family loves to do together.  This gives you something to do with your hands and feet, engages the little ones, and brings an authentic smile to your face.  Ideas: football, piggy back rides, races, bike riding, hiking, singing, picnics, the ideas are endless.  When families are engaged in doing something that they love together, I will have the opportunity to take some beautiful and authentic photographs.

8.  Not everyone has to be looking and smiling at the camera at the same time.

The best photographs are often the ones where everyone is engaged or interacting with each other.  Understand that not every picture needs to have everyone looking at the camera and smiling at the same time.  If you are engaged as a family and loving on each other, your eyes will be on your family members and your smile with be natural.  These are the photographs that you will cherish most because they depict your family connection and your love.

Goals & Dreams for the Year Ahead https://www.sarahmoyerphotography.com/blog/2015/2/goals-dreams-for-the-year-ahead This first year has been amazing as people dear to me and people I'm just getting to know have allowed me into their world to capture moments special to them. I've grown leaps and bounds in just one year! It's often that I have to pinch myself to make sure it's real as I watch this dream of photography and digital art come to life. I sat down last weekend and made out my budget and calendar for 2015 (I know it's late) and in doing so also thought through what some of my goals and dreams were for this year. And here is what I came up with.

My Goals and Dreams for 2015:

1. Attend at least one show or vendor event to showcase my photography, video productions, and scrapbook skills.

2. Attend at least one conference or training seminar to further develop my skills in at least one of those areas.

3. Finish my application and complete the steps to becoming a Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep (nowilaymedowntosleep.org) affiliated photographer.

4. Help my community through session donations (already done) and with Help Portrait events.

5. Bless the people I interact with by sharing my joy of photography as I capture their special moments.

6. Get to 175 Facebook likes.

7. Run Facebook and other specials at least 6 times this year.

8. Complete at least one 30 day photo challenge.

9. Average 2 paid sessions per month.

So that's what I'm aiming for and I hope to work with you along the way!

I'd send then out to a spot and hardly have to say a word to get them in a beautiful pose. The love this family shares just flows through when you look at these pictures. {Hancock Historial Barn Tour 2014} Findlay, Ohio Event Photographer https://www.sarahmoyerphotography.com/blog/2015/2/-hancock-historial-barn-tour-2014-findlay-ohio-event-photographer I had the pleasure of taking pictures of the Hancock Historical Museum for their annual barn tour. With 6 different barns there were a lot of great photo opportunities in these interesting antique barns. The details of each were unique and intriging. I took the oppertunity the morning of the drive around and get some picture of the barns before the hustle of the crowd with some sunrise lighting, which helped to high light some of the beautiful details and landscape. This is an event I'd recommend to any farm history buff or anyone interesting an a nice afternoon learning more about Hancock County history. {The Myers Family} Findlay, Ohio Family Photographer https://www.sarahmoyerphotography.com/blog/2015/2/-the-myers-family-findlay-ohio-family-photographer This session took two tries. The first time we met for pictures it was blistering hot and so humid you could practically cut the air with knife. So everyone and everything seemed to be melting, including my lenses which fogged up repeatedly. No worries we scheduled another shoot, but with dad Dave's job in farming it was pushed back until November. So for our second shoot we were not too hot, but perhaps too cold! Either way they were troopers through the elements and just look at out adorable they are. (Again a little biased as it's another cousin-in-law!) {Tyler - 2015} Findlay, Ohio Senior Photographer https://www.sarahmoyerphotography.com/blog/2015/2/-tyler---2015-findlay-ohio-senior-photographer Tyler was such a great subject to work with. He was so patient as we drove his El Camino all around Findlay to get some interesting shots. I've know Tyler for a while as we attend the same church and his mom has watched my boys on occasion. He was shy at first but really warmed up to the idea of pictures the more we shot. Look forward to seeing what Tyler will do in the future to put his stamp on this world! Best Wishes Tyler! Not only did we get ones on the beach (while there for his families session in Myrtle Beach), we took pictures at his Grandpa's farm. Very cool place and so many great backdrops. Best Wishes Noah!

{The Thomas Family} Findlay, Ohio Family Photographer https://www.sarahmoyerphotography.com/blog/2015/2/-the-thomas-family-findlay-ohio-family-photographer I had the pleasure of photographing this fun group on the beach while on vacation in Myrtle Beach.  We had Grandma and Grandpa and three of their children's families who happened to be there at the same time! It was a challenge between keeping sand out of the equipment, the bright sun light, and the wind whipping everyone around.
